Spain 2024 - 2 Euro Commemorative - Seville Cathedral - Colorized
Private issue, coated and illustrated post-issue
OBVERSE
The inner part of the coin depicts the cathedral, the Alcázar, and the Archive of the Indies in Seville. The three buildings form an admirable monumental ensemble in the very heart of Seville. The first two bear exceptional testimony to the Almohad civilization and to Christian Andalusia, deeply influenced by Moorish styles from the Reconquista in 1248 until the 16th century. The Giralda minaret, a masterpiece of Almohad architecture, stands next to the five-nave cathedral, which is the largest Gothic building in Europe and houses the gigantic tomb of Christopher Columbus. The old Lonja, now the Archive of the Indies, preserves the most precious archives relating to the American colonies. Along the upper edge, the inscription "Sevilla"; at the bottom, the name of the issuing country "ESPANA", and the year of issue "2024" with the mint mark of the Spanish Mint.
