United States Independence - 50 Euro Gold ¼ Oz Coin - Proof 2026
OBVERSE
250 years later, the two figures stand proudly side by side. Minerva, representing France, wears the same shield with three fleurs-de-lis, helmet, and breastplate as on the original medal. As the embodiment of the United States, Lady Liberty holds the tablet of the Statue of Liberty, on which is inscribed the date of American Independence in Roman numerals: JULY IV MDCCLXXVI. Together they hold the flame of liberty and look serenely towards the future. The leopard is no longer part of the scene, the British threat having been definitively removed.
The illustration is surrounded by the phrase “LIBERTAS POPULUSQUE UNIVERSALIS,” which means
“LIBERTY AND UNIVERSAL PEOPLE.” The date July 4, 2026, is inscribed below the figures,
the anniversary of American Independence.
REVERSE
The reverse of this collection is identical to that of the LIBERTAS AMERICANA collection of the
vintage 2023 which represents “Liberty”, the left profile bust of a slender young woman, an American representation of Liberty. Unbound hair fluttering in the wind, a staff topped with a liberty cap resting on her right shoulder. She inspired Galle to engrave the “French liberty”, for the monetary proof in 1792. Under the bust, we can see the signature of “DUPRÉ”. In the highlight, we can read the date in French “4 JUIL.1776.”. The hallmarks and face value are also visible.
