OBVERSE

The design shows an image based on the artwork "Heart of Viana", signed by the artist Joana Vasconcelos, which was inspired by traditional jewelry from Northern Portugal (the region around the city of Viana do Castelo). It symbolizes the support of the Portuguese people for the national team on the occasion of the Olympic Games. On the left and right, in a semicircle, are the inscriptions "JOANA VASCONCELOS" and "EQUIPA OLÍMPICA DE PORTUGAL 2016", respectively. In the lower part is the mint mark "INCM". The outer ring of the coin bears the twelve stars of the European Union.
