Finland 2026 - 2 Euro Commemorative - Raili and Reima Pietilä
This special coin pays tribute to the renowned Finnish architect couple Raili and Reima Pietilä, whose organic and visionary style profoundly marked the country's post-war architecture.
OBVERSE
The obverse of the coin, designed by Pekka Rytkönen, features an abstract and refined composition depicting the iconic "Dipoli" building, located on the Otaniemi campus of Aalto University in Espoo. This masterpiece, designed by the architect couple, is considered one of the most remarkable examples of post-war Finnish modernism. The design is complemented by the stylized representation of a tree, symbolizing the couple's deep connection with Finnish nature and the organic integration of the Dipoli building into its natural surroundings. At the top of the coin, the name of the commemorated event appears in full, multi-line lettering: "RAILI REIMA PIETILÄ". To its left are the country code "FI" for Finland, the year of issue "2026", and the official mint mark of the Dutch mint. The motif is completed by the letter "R", the engraver's signature, as well as the twelve stars of the European flag adorning the outer ring of the coin.
