For the 80th anniversary of theappeal of the 18 June 1940, of the 130th Anniversary of the birth of Charles de Gaulle and the 50th anniversary of his death, this coin commemorates one of the most significant French leaders in history.
On the obverse of this coin, we can see Charles de Gaulle through two engravings of his profile. These two engravings commemorate two important facets of his life: his military career and his political career. The Cross of Lorraine, which represents freedom and the unification of France, also appears on the obverse of the coin. This cross was associated with the General de Gaulle and was also erected at his memorial located in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises.
