OBVERSE

In the inner part of the coin, at the center, three Italian flags are depicted. They represent the anniversaries of Italian unification which took place every 50 years in 1911, 1961, and this year in 2011. Symbolically, the dates of reunification and the anniversary appear under the flags in the manner "1861 > 2011 >>" to show the link between generations. Beneath the flags, the inscriptions "RI" (Italian Republic), "R" the mint mark, and "ELF INC." the engraver's signature can be read. The inscription "150° DELL' UNITA’ D’ITALIA," translated as 150th Anniversary of Italian Unity, appears above the flags. The twelve stars of the European Union are all around the rim in the outer part of the bimetallic coin.
