Les Régions 2026 - Île-de France - 5 Euro Silver Coin - Proof
OBVERSE
On the obverse of this coin, we recognize essential components of Île-de-France's identity. The design is structured around the quintessential representation of the region, Paris, and even France: the Eiffel Tower. Drawn from a low angle, the tower bears the region's name inscribed in place of its first level. It also rests on an Art Nouveau metro entrance, nestled beneath its arches.
To his right, the bust of a majestic stag reminds us that Île-de-France is also a region of parks, woods, and forests. Three fleurs-de-lis, arranged around the stag, refer to the territory's coat of arms.
On the reverse, Louis XIV is depicted in profile with his name inscribed in his headdress. Below his portrait, a decorative element from the grille of the Palace of Versailles takes the form of an allegory of the Sun King, doubling the reference to the most famous king of France and the invaluable architectural heritage he left to Île-de-France with the Palace of
Versailles.
REVERSE
This common reverse for the collection's round coins brings together all the regions that make up French territory. The outline of the design is covered by sandblasted discs of various diameters. They form the silhouette of metropolitan France, distinguished by its polished finish.
The obverse features the letters RF struck with the French flag in heraldry, and the face value of 5€.
The names of all metropolitan French regions are inscribed at their geographical locations. On the discs south of metropolitan France, the silhouettes of Corsica and the overseas departments and regions are recognizable: Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, and Mayotte.
