OBVERSE
The obverse of this coin features William, known as "the Conqueror," on the verge of being crowned William I, King of England. Seated on the throne of Edward the Confessor in Westminster Abbey, William holds a scepter, a symbol of royal power, in his left hand.
REVERSE
The reverse depicts a major scene from the Bayeux Tapestry, where Norman horsemen charge English infantry on the hills of Sussex at Hastings. The success of this offensive was decisive in the Norman victory and conquest of England.
