OBVERSE

The design depicts a portion of the Basilica and linear shapes inspired by the border motif of an ancient Greek mosaic discovered at the site. The inscriptions "ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF PHILIPPI" and "HELLENIC REPUBLIC" (in Greek) are inscribed around the inner disc. The year of issue "2017" is shown in the background, and a palmette (the mint mark of the Hellenic Mint) is on the right. In the lower left section, the artist's monogram (George Stamatopoulos) is visible.
