A design dedicated to the painting "The Creation of Adam" by Italian artist Michelangelo, twelve five-pointed stars, the name of the issuing authority CITTA’ DEL VATICANO (in English VATICAN CITY), the face value 20 EURO, and the mint mark R from the Rome Mint

REVERSE

Design by sculptor Antonella Napolione and engraver Maria Angela Cassol, depicting the coat of arms of Pope Francis I. It features a blue shield with, in the upper part, the radiant and flaming sun bearing the red letters IHS (the middle letter surmounted by a cross) and three black nails, emblem of the Society of Jesus. In the lower part are the star and the spikenard flower (homages to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, respectively), beneath a mitre placed between two crossed gold and silver keys with loops crossed by a cord; below is a banner with the motto MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO (in English, CHOSEN BECAUSE MERCIFUL).
