L'histoire
In 2006, Turin hosts the XX Winter Olympic Games, the Giochi invernali. The Mole Antonelliana, the city's iconic building, thus finds its place on the Italian 2-euro coin celebrating them.
Maria Carmela Colaneri signs the design: a skier on a background of ski tracks, with the mention TORINO and the mint mark R. The coin was released in early 2006, with 40,000,000 examples minted; its exact date varies between January and February according to sources.
It bears the old common reverse, that of the fifteen States of the Union, which the 2 Euros are abandoning starting from 2007. This is a circulating coin, like all Italian 2-Euro commemorative coins.
