L'histoire
Ten years after the arrival of euro coins and banknotes, all Eurozone countries issued the same 2-euro coin in 2012. Only the national side changes: the country's name at the top, the dates 2002 2012 at the bottom.
The design is by Helmut Andexlinger, a graphic designer at the Austrian Mint: Earth bears the euro symbol, surrounded by daily life, finance, trade, industry, and energy, under the twelve European stars.
Italy struck it in Rome, where the mint placed its mint mark R on the right: 14,971,010 circulating quality coins, in addition to BU and Proof sets. The German face reads BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND; ours reads REPUBBLICA ITALIANA. This is what distinguishes the Italian version from others.
