Route 66 is one of the most famous roads in the United States. Connecting Chicago to Los Angeles, it crosses the country from east to west for over 3,900 km (2,400 miles). Its path follows an old transportation corridor that existed even before its official creation in 1926. Nicknamed the "Main Street of America" and later the "Mother Road," it played a major role in American history.
