OBVERSE

In the outer ring, the twelve stars of the European Community are arranged in a circle, separated by a curve representing the orbit of a celestial body. The engraving depicts the physicist Galileo at his worktable, equipped with an astronomical telescope. The year of issue is on the table. Above the physicist is the name of the issuing state "SAN MARINO", below it "ANNO MONDIALE DELLA FISICA", and around it the mint mark "R" from the Rome Mint and the initials "LDS" of the engraver Luciana De Simoni.
