OBVERSE

The twelve stars of the European Union surround the design of an ancient statue depicting a discus thrower about to launch the disc. The base of the statue encroaches on the outer ring of the coin. The Olympic Games logo, "ATHENS 2004" and the five Olympic rings are depicted on the left, while the number "2" and the word "ΕΥΡΩ" are on the right. The year of issue is indicated on either side of the star placed in the center at the bottom. The mint mark is located above the athlete's head on the left.
