OBVERSE

The design features a portrait of Simone Veil, née Jacob (1927-2017), by Joaquin Jimenez. A survivor of Auschwitz, she was the first elected President of the European Parliament, from 1979 to 1982, and fought for the decriminalization of abortion: the law bearing her name was passed in 1975. Her deportation number, 78651, appears on her collar. The European Parliament is depicted in the background, along with her name, dates, the year 1975, the letters RF, and the year of issue 2018.
