OBVERSE

⁣⁢The obverse of this exceptional coin's design features the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral in its purest form. Rather than settling for a rectangular format, which would have been faithful to the edifice, the Monnaie de Paris wished to pay
homage to the cathedral's Gothic style by adopting the contours of a pointed arch window adorned with quatrefoils. Eugène Viollet-le-Duc's reconstructed spire forms the mullion of the window here and fits perfectly into the design's dynamic, revealing the new rooster statue created during the reconstruction work at its apex.⁤⁣

REVERSE

The reverse allows us to enter the cathedral's interior. Here, we discover the fully renovated choir, revealing the new liturgical furniture at the nave level. Overlooking the vaults, Notre-Dame's timber frame is integrated into the upper part of the mullion, showcasing an intricate assembly of trusses – triangular wooden structures supporting the cathedral's roof. The timber frame is a faithful representation of the new structure, itself rebuilt identically and with the same craftsmanship as the building's original timber frame.
