Appointed Emperor of the French by plebiscite, Napoleon crowned himself at Notre-Dame on December 2, 1804, during his coronation. He also crowned his wife Josephine, as seen in David's famous painting reproduced on this stained glass strike.⁤⁣

⁣⁢1944: THE LIBERATION
Upon the Liberation of Paris, General de Gaulle visited Notre-Dame to attend the Te Deum dedicated to victory. However, the program was changed at the last moment, and a vibrant Magnificat was ultimately sung in his presence.⁤⁣

⁣⁢2024: THE REOPENING
The fire at Notre-Dame in April 2019 caused considerable damage, notably destroying Viollet-le-Duc's entire timber frame and spire. After more than five years of work, the cathedral's reopening is scheduled for Sunday, December 8th!⁤⁣
