Obverse
Right profile of the emperor wearing a laurel wreath. In an arc, the expression: "Napoléon III" is inscribed on the left and "empereur" (emperor) on the right. At the bottom center of the coin is the engraver's signature (Barre).
Reverse
All imperial symbols are grouped on the reverse of this coin: the eagle, the crown, the imperial mantle, the cross of the Legion of Honor surmounted by an N for Napoleon, the scepter, and the hand of justice. Around this ensemble, in an arc, the words "Empire Français" (French Empire). The monetary value is placed on either side of the coin, "20" on the left, "FR" on the right. At the bottom of the coin is the year of issue, as well as a letter before the date indicating the mint.
