OBVERSE

Marking the bicentennial of Louis Braille's birth in 2009, Belgium issued this 2 Euro coin in honor of the inventor of the writing system for people who are blind or visually impaired. Its obverse features a portrait of Louis Braille, between his initials L and B, written in the alphabet he authored. Above the inventor's effigy is inscribed his name "LOUIS BRAILLE." Below the portrait, the issuing country "BE" is indicated between the dates "1809-2009."
