Obverse

The design depicts the EU flag, a symbol uniting peoples and cultures who share a vision and an ideal for a better common future. Twelve stars transforming into human silhouettes symbolize the birth of a new Europe. Top right, in a semicircle, the issuing country "MALTA" and the years "1985-2015" are indicated. The artist's initials (Georgios Stamatopoulos) appear at the bottom right. The outer ring of the coin depicts the twelve stars of the European flag.
