L'histoire
The Polizia di Stato had never had its own 2-Euro coin. The Office of External Relations, Ceremonial, and Historical Studies of the Public Security Department proposed minting one for the institution's 170th anniversary in 2022, the year of the euro's twentieth anniversary.
The design is by Annalisa Masini, one of Italy's eight engravers: a male and female police officer in front of their patrol car, under the inscription POLIZIA DI STATO. The initials AM appear below the design, and the letter R signifies the Rome Mint.
The other coins, the vast majority, went into circulation, in Italy as well as in the rest of the Eurozone.
