From January 1 to June 30, 2024, Belgium holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The presidency is rotated among member states for a period of six months. However, to ensure continuity in the long European legislative process, successive presidencies spend 18 months together in what are known as "Trios." Our country has therefore been coordinating with Spain – the current president – and Hungary, the next country in line, for some time. Belgium will focus on current issues such as security, social policy, the green transition, and economic growth.
