First Strike in Tribute to Silver-Plated Copper Euro: "Ireland": Representation of the first commemorative coin of 2 Euros from the Emerald Isle

Ireland's first 2 Euro Gold commemorative coin was released on March 25, 2007, on the occasion of the joint issue by the thirteen Eurozone countries celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. To this day, it remains Ireland's only 2 Euro commemorative coin.

The obverse of the Irish coin differs from those of the twelve other member countries of the Monetary Union at the time by its inscriptions in Irish (Gaelic): "Conradh na Romhe / 50 bliain" ("Fiftieth Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome") and "Eire 2007" ("Ireland 2007"). The motifs on its reverse depict the Treaty of Rome book, signed by the six founding states of the EEC, ancestor of the EU, with the star-patterned paving of Capitoline Hill in the background, designed in the heart of the Italian capital by Michelangelo. 4.88 million copies of Ireland's first 2 Euro commemorative coin were struck. 40,000 coins were minted in Brilliant Uncirculated quality and only 10,000 in Proof quality.
