The euro coins from the Netherlands feature two different designs. Each design shows the effigy of Queen Beatrix, created by Bruno Ninaber van Eyben. All designs include the twelve stars of the European Union. In addition to the year of issue, the coins bear the text BEATRIX, KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN (Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands). This inscription is arranged in an arc on the cent coins and vertically on the 1 and 2 euro coins, similar to the old guilder.
