Within the rim, the twelve stars of the European Community. In the center of the coin, the engraving depicts the reigning sovereign of Monaco, Prince Albert II, who has been on the throne since 2005. The head is in right profile. Above, the mention "MONACO"; below, the year of issue is framed by the mint mark of the Monnaie de Paris, the minting institute for Monegasque coins, and the mint mark of the Engraver General of the Mints.
