The type 50 seeds was created in 1897 by Oscar Roty and was immediately used for silver parts. He was then reused on pieces during the new franc, hence the creation of this piece.
There 50 seeds was first hit on silver sides, then following the rise in the price of this metal, on sides in cupro-nickel.

The obverse of the50 seeds represents the sly walking on the left draped in a Phrygian cap, sowing back a wind, behind a rising sun; Signed O. Roty in hollow.
