Celebration of the history of the independence of the United States
From 2020, the currency of Paris traces the history of independence of the United States through a collection of currencies. The drawings of currencies are directly inspired by historical products published by the Monnaie de Paris: old medals taken from our archives. This sub-theme is part of the theme major dates of humanity which started in 2019 with the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first step on the Moon and the DDay.
In 2020, the currency of Paris began the series "Independence of the history of the United States by the arrival of La Fayette in Boston.
This year, we decided to represent the arrival of Washington in Boston.
On the face, an unrecovered bust of George Washington turned to the right. Under the bust is the artist's name, "Duvivier Paris F".
The engraving is taken from an old medal struck by the currency of Paris, which brings authenticity to the room.
At the bottom of the play, we can see "Comita Americana", who means "The American Congress", the US Congress. All around the play, the inscription "Georgio Washington SVMPERMO DVCI exerted adserterori libertatis" is present, which can be translated by "the American Congress to George Washington, general -in -chief of the armies, the defender of freedom".
On the reverse, you can see Washington, on Dorchester Heights, leading his four officers on horseback to the city of Boston. On the right of the room, there are a fort, cannon cannons and cannonballs on the ground. Washington designates the finger at British ships fleeing the city. At the top of the play, the inscription "Hostibus Primo Fugatis" can result in "for the first time, the enemies are put to the run."
Downstairs, we can see "Bostonium Recuperatum / XVII Marti / MDCCCLXXVI" which can result in "Boston taken up on March 17, 1776".
The 2021 vintage as well as the engraving punches are visible at the bottom of the reverse.
