Italy 2005 - Commemorative 2 Euro - European Constitution
COMMEMORATIVE PIECE
1st anniversary of the signing of the European Constitution (2004-2005).
OBVERSE
The character of the Greek mythology Europe holding a feather and the text of the European Constitution, a bull at his side.
Europa is a Phoenician princess, daughter of Agenor, delighted because of her beauty by Zeus, then metamorphosed into a white bull in order to approach her without frightening her and escape the jealousy of his wife Hera. She gave her name to the European continent.
The treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe (also called the Treaty of Rome II or the Treaty of Rome of 2004), signed in Rome by the heads of state and government of the European Union on October 29, 2004, should have entered into force on November 1, 2006, provided that it had been ratified by each of the twenty-five signatory states, which was not the case in the end. Due to this failure, it was replaced by an amending treaty, the text of which was approved by the European Council of Lisbon on October 19, 2007, hence its name of the Lisbon Treaty.
