This amazing silver coin represents Palmyra, an ancient city in northern Syria which has been explored since the 18th century. It was mentioned for the first time in the 2nd millennium before our era. This city was a famous shopping center in the Middle East. In Greek, the name of the city means "city of palm trees". It was built on the silk road which extended from China and India to the Mediterranean.
