By issuing this second 2 euro coin of 2024, the Royal Belgian Mint is not just commemorating the long history of the fight against cancer in our country. This issue also represents a concrete expression of gratitude to all the professionals and volunteers who have dedicated themselves for years to medically and morally support people going through what can be considered the most difficult moment of their lives. Through this coin, we also want to continue to draw attention to the need to support patients and their families.

The obverse features a stylized rainbow at the top, a symbol of hope for a world without cancer, along with the country code BE and the year 2024. The center depicts a heartbeat in the form of a awareness ribbon, often worn as a sign of solidarity with patients. At the bottom are the bilingual inscriptions “Lutte contre le cancer / Strijd tegen kanker” (Fight against cancer) surrounded by the initials “IB” of designer Iris Bruijns, the mintmark (an Erlenmeyer flask with an aster), and the mint director's mark (a caduceus) of the Royal Dutch Mint, where the coin was struck.
