On the obverse, a design commemorating the five hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus and the four hundred and eightieth anniversary of his death, with a portrait of the astronomer on the left, in front of a representation of the solar system; in the lower part, the signature of the artist engraver Daniela Fusco, the name of the issuing country MALTA, and the year 2023; in the legend: “NICOLAUS COPERNICUS 1473 • 1543”; on the ring, the twelve emblematic European five-pointed stars pointing upwards.
