France 2014 - 2 Euro Commemorative - D-DAY
OBVERSE
On the face of the coin, the graphic design of the word "D-DAY" features both a landing craft and a tank's cannon. The dates 1944-2014 are visible above the tank's cannon, along with the mention "70th anniversary of the landing." The very distinctive boot prints worn by the American and British armies gradually disappear, washed away by a wave. Verlaine's phrase, used as the code for the start of the landing, is engraved on the wave: "les sanglots longs des violons de l’automne blessent mon cœur d’une langueur monotone" (the long sobs of autumn violins wound my heart with a monotonous languor).
REVERSE
A map of the European continent is depicted on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union.
