Austria 2024 - Blue Tang - 3 Euro Commemorative Coin
OBVERSE
The inner part of the coin depicts a blue tang. With its disc-shaped body, bright blue color, intense gaze, and pursed lips, the blue tang resembles a child's drawing. The blue tang gets its name from the bony projections on its tail that have a razor-sharp edge, much like a surgeon's scalpel. When a rival approaches, the striking yellow scalpel is extended like a threat to ward off attack, which can lead to nasty cuts inflicted on the enemy if they disregard the warning. Once young tangs reach about the size of a 1 euro coin, they begin their lives on the seabed. When illuminated by special light at this stage, they glow with an intense greenish color. The fish play an important role in maintaining the health of coral reefs, as they remove algae when feeding, allowing corals to flourish. Furthermore, their droppings fertilize the reef. A wide band reminiscent of an old-fashioned porthole frames the aquatic scene. At the top, the animal's name in Austrian "BLAUER DOKTORFISCH" and the year of issue "2024".
