⁣⁢The coin represents the place the euro holds after 10 years of circulation in the euro area.⁤⁣

⁣⁢ For Luxembourg, the coin differs slightly from other coins in the common series, as Luxembourgish law requires the effigy of the Grand Duke to appear on all coins.⁤⁣

⁣⁢ In the center of the coin, a hologram appears which, in one orientation, depicts the Earth with the "€" symbol and in another orientation, the effigy of Grand Duke Henri. All around the planet, various symbols represent economic actors: the European Central Bank by the ECB headquarters, ecology and energy by wind turbines, industries by the factory, cities by housing, European citizens by figures, and trade by the ship.⁤⁣

⁣⁢ The coin is issued by each country in the euro area and bears its name in the country's language(s) along with the dates "2002 2012".⁤⁣

⁣⁢ The outer ring of the coin depicts the twelve stars of the European flag.⁤⁣

⁣⁢ The design was chosen from five drafts pre-selected by citizens and residents of the European Union, who voted online. It is the work of Helmut Andexlinger, a professional designer at the Austrian Mint. His initials "A.H." are present below the depiction of the ECB headquarters.⁤⁣
