Malta 2016 - 2 Euro Commemorative - Ġgantija Temples
OBVERSE
The coin depicts the Ġgantija Temples, located on the island of Gozo. Ġgantija is the name of the site housing these Neolithic megalithic temples. It is one of the oldest freestanding constructions in the world, but also one of the oldest religious structures. Built around the 36th century BC, the Ġgantija temples predate Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. The inscription "ĠGANTIJA TEMPLES" appears in the upper right part of the coin, followed by the years "3800-3200 BC". In the lower left part is the name of the issuing country, "MALTA", and below it, the year of issue "2016", framed by the mint master's mark and the mint mark.
The outer ring of the coin depicts the twelve stars of the European flag.
REVERSE
A map of the European continent is depicted on a dynamic canvas composed of the twelve stars of the European Union.
