The San Marino coins feature eight different designs on the national side, along with the country name "SAN MARINO", the year of issue, the letter "R" for the Rome mint, the initials of the sketch designer "AL" (Arno Ludwig), and the twelve stars of the European Union.
1, 2, and 5 cent coins – the official coat of arms of the Republic of San Marino, the City Gate, and the Church of the Capuchin Friars.
Coins of 10, 20, and 50 cents – the facade of the Church and Convent of St. Francis, the three towers (Guaita, Cesta, and Montale), and a detail from the portrait of Saint Marin by painter Emilio Retrosi.
