The design depicts the St. Michael's Church in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, which has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1985. At the top, the year of issue "2014" and to the left the mint mark (A, D, F, G, J). At the bottom, the inscription "NIEDERSACHSEN" and below it the country of issue indication "D". At the top right, the engraver's initials OE (Ott Erich). The outer ring of the coin represents the twelve stars of the European flag.
