OBVERSE

sculpted by Jean-Antoine Houdon in 1792 and exhibited at the Virginia State Capitol.
In the background, we find the Betsy Ross flag, where each of the thirteen stars
represents one of the founding colonies of the United States.⁤⁣

REVERSE

⁣⁢The reverse is dedicated to the seal of the Continental Army, historically placed under the
command of George Washington in 1775. The emblem depicts a serpent
overlooking a military trophy, composed of armor, crossed flags, and
weapons. This composition refers to the military strength and resilience of this
Continental Army during the War of Independence.⁤⁣
