OBVERSE

In the outer ring, the twelve stars of the European Community are arranged in a circle and separated by a curve representing the revolution of a celestial body. The engraving depicts the physicist Galileo at his worktable, equipped with an astronomical telescope. The year is on the table. Above the physicist is the name of the issuing state "SAN MARINO", below it "ANNO MONDIALE DELLA FISICA", and around it the letter "R" from the Rome mint and the initials "LDS" of the engraver Luciana De Simoni.
