Spain 2010 - 2 Euro Commemorative - Historic Centre of Cordoba
OBVERSE
The coin commemorates the first Spanish site (the historic centre of Cordoba) inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1984. It depicts the "forest of pillars" of the Great Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, one of the oldest and largest examples of Islamic art in Europe. Built between the 8thth and 10thth centuries, the mosque later became a cathedral dedicated to Catholic worship and underwent several successive transformations. This is the first coin in a new series dedicated to Spanish sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
REVERSE
A map of the European continent is depicted on a dynamic background composed of the twelve stars of the European Union.
