OBVERSE

The design depicts part of the Basilica and linear shapes inspired by the border motif of an ancient Greek mosaic discovered on the site. The inscriptions "ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF PHILIPPI" and "HELLENIC REPUBLIC" (in Greek) are inscribed around the inner disc. The year of issue "2017" is shown in the background, and a palmette (the mint mark of the Greek Mint) is featured on the right. In the lower left is the artist's monogram (George Stamatopoulos).
