It is the largest mosque in the world by area. The complex also includes the Goharshad Mosque, a museum, a library, four seminaries, a cemetery, the Razavi University of Islamic Sciences, a refectory for pilgrims, vast prayer halls, and other buildings.

⁣⁢The Dome of the Rock (Arabic: قبة الصخرة Qubbat aṣ-Ṣakhra) is an Islamic shrine located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was initially completed in 691–92 CE on the order of the Umayyad caliph Abd al-Malik. The original dome collapsed in 1015 and was rebuilt in 1022–23. The Dome of the Rock is, at its heart, one of the oldest surviving works of Islamic architecture. It is the most recognizable landmark in the entire city of Jerusalem.
The site's great importance to Muslims stems from traditions linking it to the creation of the world and the belief that Hazrat Muhammad's (peace be upon him) night journey to paradise began from the rock located in the center of the structure.⁤⁣
