OBVERSE

⁣⁢The Greek mythological figure Europa holding a quill and the text of the European Constitution, with a bull beside her.
Europa was a Phoenician princess, daughter of Agenor, abducted because of her beauty by Zeus, who had transformed himself into a white bull to approach her without frightening her and escape the jealousy of his wife Hera. She gave her name to the European continent.⁤⁣

⁣⁢The Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe (also called the Treaty of Rome II or the Treaty of Rome of 2004), signed in Rome by the Heads of State and Government of the European Union on October 29, 2004, was supposed to enter into force on November 1, 2006, provided it had been ratified by each of the twenty-five signatory states, which was not the case in the end. Due to this failure, it was replaced by an amending treaty whose text was approved by the European Council in Lisbon on October 19, 2007, hence its name, the Treaty of Lisbon. ⁤⁣
