Obverse

In the center of the coin are five interlocking crosses and a hand. At the top are the coat of arms of Portugal with the country name "PORTUGAL" below it. Along the inner edge is inscribed "CRUZ VERMELHA PORTUGUESA", the dates "1865-2015", the mint mark "INCM", and the engraver's initials "António Marinho". In the outer ring of the coin are the twelve stars of the European Union.
