OBVERSE

The inner part of the coin features a design celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. In 1974, the April 25th Revolution in Portugal ended 17,499 days of dictatorship. It led to the establishment of a new constitution, universal suffrage, the creation of political parties, recognition of independence for colonies, and equal rights for married women. This coin highlights the importance of the carnation, a symbol of freedom. In the upper part is the inscription "Esta é a madrugada que em esperava" and on the left side, the issuing country's name "Portugal" and the year of issue "2024".
