Mickey Mouse, star of the Disney studios, was drawn in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub
Iwerks to replace the character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Inspired both
by a pet mouse Walt Disney had as a child and by the
cartoon characters of the era, Mickey made his first appearance the
same year in the short film "Steamboat Willie," where he plays a sailor on a
steamboat. Since this historic first appearance, Mickey Mouse has
become Disney's iconic symbol, propelling the studios to international
success. The reverse is common to the mini-medals from the Monnaie de Paris and
features a view of the mint surrounded by stars. The year 2023 is
also present above the exergue.
