OBVERSE

⁣⁢The treaty signed by the six founding countries, with the motif of the paving stones (designed by Michelangelo) of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, where the signing ceremony took place on March 25, 1957, in the background. The inscriptions “TRAITE DE ROME 50 ANS” in Latin, as well as “EUROPE” and the name of the issuing country in the country's languages, appear around it.⁤⁣

⁣⁢ The Treaty of Rome established the European Economic Community and paved the way for the introduction of the euro in 1999 and euro banknotes and coins in 2002. The anniversary will be celebrated on March 25, 2007. On this occasion, the euro area countries decided to jointly issue this commemorative coin. Its design was chosen following a competition organized by the European Mints. The legend differs from one country to another, but the design is the same.⁤⁣
