This series of 12 pieces illustrated by different dinosaurs will be issued to the rhythm of a room every quarter during the years 2019 to 2022. Partially colored, these pieces have the particularity of being luminescent in the dark, the animals appearing on These twelve pieces become active at night by creating a light effect.

Between animals, stylized representations of the flora and the name of the emitting country "Republik Osterreich" and the facial value "3 euro".

Each of the 12 prehistoric animals presented in the series had an exceptional quality, such as the most sophisticated hunting techniques, the longest claws or the most powerful bite, to name only a few.

Like all animal groups, dinosaurs were of all shapes and sizes. Weighing only one kilogram and not larger than a chicken, Microraptor was the smallest of all. Despite its wings and feathers, the microraptor was not a bird, but rather a real dinosaur dating from the beginning of the Cretaceous some 120 million years ago. We know this because many well -preserved microraptor fossil specimens have been found in lake backgrounds in the Chinese Liaoning province. Preserved in the mud, the remains of the dinosaur were protected from oxygen and scavengers and thus offered paleontologists a rare and fascinating overview of prehistoric life. Even the dinosaur feathers were clearly visible, forming a fringe around the skull, along the neck before blending into the long feathers of the wings. The long elongated tail also culminated in a range of feathers, two of which were particularly long. Microraptor is also one of the rare dinosaurs whose color of the feathers can be measured. Although it is not a bird, the microraptor, however, provides important evidence of the evolutionary relationship between birds and the first dinosaurs.
