From January 1 to June 30, 2024, Belgium assures the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The presidency is assigned in turn to a Member State for a period of six months. However, to ensure the continuity of the long European legislative process, successive presidents spend 18 months together in what are called "trios". Our country has therefore already been concerted for some time with Spain - the President in office - and Hungary, which is the next online country. Belgium will focus in particular on topical issues such as security, social policy, green transition and economic growth.
